Activity Rationale and Purpose
Of the 1.6 million people who will be diagnosed with cancer in 2016, fewer than 10% will suffer from a rare form of blood cancer. Because these diseases are relatively rare compared to solid tumors, most providers in clinical practice will have limited exposure to these patients. Given the robust pace of scientific discovery and FDA approval over the last 3 years, oncology practitioners must maintain a wide knowledge base to effectively treat patients. The Advanced Practitioner takes on much of this role as an integral member of the collaborative practice team. This activity will help learners narrow the gap between clinical practice and newer treatment methodologies for Hodgkin lymphoma, including novel agents and the management of their potential side effects.

The intended audience for this enduring internet activity is physicians, PAs, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, advanced degree nurses, oncology and hematology nurses, and pharmacists who specialize in the field of oncology.

Learning Objectives
After completing this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Identify the mechanism of action for novel agents used for the treatment of hematological malignancies including Hodgkin lymphoma (HL)
• List monitoring parameters for toxicities associated with newer agents used to treat HL
• Describe the signs of early and serious toxicity that providers and patients need to be aware of when initiating therapy with new agents for HL
• Describe best practices for optimizing selection and sequencing of treatments in the upfront and relapsed/refractory settings
• Anticipate and identify potential adverse events that may be associated with newer targeted and immunotherapies and how such adverse events may be adequately addressed to optimize patient outcome
• Discuss the pivotal role and necessary expertise of the AP as a vital part of the inter-professional oncology/hematology team
